Shop signs in Hong Kong, especially neon signs, have been an unique and important visual element that form the streets and culture in Hong Kong. The exhibition documents the history and aesthetics of the calligraphic styles that were commonly found in different types of shop signs in Hong Kong.
The design of the exhibition poster and the visuals of the exhibitions was inspired by the unique features of the strokes in different calligraphic styles. A map is overprinted on the strokes that symbolises these hidden gems of Hong Kong’s visual culture that can be found on streets in Hong Kong, though seldom noticed by us.
This exhibition was the main project of my internship in Information Design Lab of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. My main role in this exhibition involves in designing the exhibition poster and all display panels in this exhibition.
I also participated in the whole working process from brainstorming, designing, setting up to promotions as well.
