The archive brochure is the introduction of an ongoing study and research project on Hong Kong neon signs and their correlation to vernacular graphic design history. This brochure captured some of my initial findings from researching and analysing an archive of hundreds neon sign design drawings. These artworks are extremely valuable and helpful in providing insights to the early graphic design history (1950s – 1970s) of Hong Kong.
Apart from the producing the content and supervising the production of the design of this booklet, I designed the cover of this brochure to accentuate the 'design' of the neon signs (i.e. the graphical shapes) which have been overlooked and simplified as merely a craft – the designs of neon signs in these 70-year-old drawings encompass the same process and visual impacts to what we consider as 'graphic design' nowadays.
